Internationally available information sources for the development of in situ conservation strategies for wild species useful for food and agriculture
Thormann, I., D.I. Jarvis, J.A. Dearing, J.A., and T. Hodgkin. 1999. Plant Genetic Resources Newsletter, 11: 38-50. Key words Conservation strategies; databases; information; in situ conservation; wild plant species Summary A review on internationally available information sources relevant to the development of strategies for in situ conservation of wild plant species was carried out using the Internet as a main source, which has become an important tool for information exchange. Collation and analysis of existing information is the first step in formulating a plan on which conservationists can start to set priorities and develop appropriate strategies for conservation, and we describe the extent to which electronically available databases and information sets can contribute to this data gathering process. In addition, we note where these information sources are complemented by more traditional information sources.
