El papel de la mujer en la conservación de los recursos genéticos del maíz en Guatemala

The Role of Women in Conservation of Maize Genetic Resources in Guatemala

Women Farmers and Andean Seeds

Introduction:

Gender analysis and gender sensitive approaches are a core apart of conservation and use of PGR in production systems. The Gender activity produces indicators for monitoring and mainstreaming gender sensitive approaches in biodiversity and PGR projects. Case studies on gender-differentiated management of agrobiodiversity provide a rich body of empirical information that supports the use of gender analysis to obtain a more complete view of the extent, value, and uses of genetic resources by rural communities.

 Activity objectives:
  • Provide national PGR programmes with tools for assessing agrobiodiversity management at the local level.

  • Develop and apply indicators for gender sensitive implementation of PGR research, conservation and development projects

  • Serve as global focal point for the application of gender analysis to agrobiodiversity through the publication of methods and case studies.
