 Overview
The sub-Saharan Office for IPGRI does, and will continue to, support and promote computer-based (and other) germplasm documentation and management systems. In addition, the sub-Saharan Office will facilitate the flow of information, if and when this is necessary, appropriate and applicable, through such media and mechanisms as is possible and affordable. The overall strategic objective here is to ensure that decision-making on plant genetic resources conservation and use in sub-Saharan Africa is well informed, and that data and information on PGR are well managed and widely disseminated.

With its public awareness activities, IPGRI in sub-Saharan Africa strives to raise the level of awareness on the importance of plant genetic resources and related issues in the region to ensure continued commitment by countries to support plant genetic resources conservation and use.

Broadly, emphasis on data and information management is on data handling and analysis and visualization.

IPGRI support
IPGRI supports national programmes and regional networks by providing demand-driven training and capacity-building, by sourcing for support donors, and by encouraging sharing of collaborative advantages between national programmes.
