VENUE and TRAVEL INFORMATION

The Workshop will be held in Alnarp, Sweden, from 24 to 26 April 2003. The Workshop will take place almost five years after the Braunschweig Symposium. It will aim at providing an input to the ECP/GR Steering Committee meeting, which will be held several months later, in October 2003.

Location of venue

The workshop will be held at the Alnarp campus (latitude 55°38'60N, longitude 13°4'60E), the southern branch of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, responsible for undergraduate and graduate education in landscape architecture and horticulture. More information about the site, including maps, is available at www-alnarp.slu.se/english.html. Sweden’s third largest city Malmö is situated in very close vicinity.

How to get there

The international airport of Copenhagen in Denmark, Kastrup, is located 35 km west of Alnarp. There are rapid and convenient train connections every 20 minutes from Kastrup to the Central Railway Station of Malmö. Transfer from the hotels in central Malmö to Alnarp during the workshop will be organised through chartered buses.

Flight information

The Copenhagen international airport serves most international airline companies. Please check with your local travel agent about the most rational route.

Flight reservations

You are advised to plan your arrival in Copenhagen, Denmark on Wednesday 23 April 2002, for subsequent transfer by train to the city of Malmö (Central Station). Taxis for further transfer to hotels normally abound in this area. The meeting will start in Alnarp on the morning of Thursday 24 April. The workshop will be concluded on 24-25-26 April 2003. Participants are asked to book their departure flights for Sunday 27 April 2002.

Visa requirements

Citizens from the following countries/territories require a visa when entering Sweden: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Mace­donia, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. For further information and how to apply, please contact the nearest embassy or consulate of Sweden (www.utrikes.regeringen.se/inenglish/missions/ index.htm). Forms can be download­ed from the Swedish Migration Board's website  (www.migrationsverket.se/english/enav.htm). Please make sure that the visa includes transit through Denmark (‘Schengen area’).

Letter of invitation

Upon request, the Organizing Committee will send a letter of invitation to participate in the Workshop. Such an invitation is extended specifically to assist participants in obtaining appropriate visas.

Insurance

The participation fee does not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that you obtain appropriate insurance coverage before departure. The Workshop Secre­tariat or the Organising Committee will not take any responsibility for any participants failing to arrange their own insurance.

Electricity

The electric system in Sweden is 220 Volts AC/50 Hz. Sockets are European-style plugs with two round pins.

Currency

Major foreign currencies and traveller’s cheques can be easily changed at banks, hotels or exchange agencies. All major credit cards are accepted throughout the country.

Weather

The weather in the month of April is normally rather changeable in Sweden. Pleasant spring temperatures may quickly and unexpectedly be followed by snow or hail. Mean temperature in South Sweden at the end of the month is around 8°C. Bring warm clothes just in case!  

Food

Lunches will be served at the University canteen adjacent to the venue. Participants are kindly requested to indicate on the registration form whether special or vegetarian food is required.
