Public Awareness on PGR in APO region

The public awareness on conservation and use of plant genetic resources has been carried out by IPGRI-APO through awareness activities in projects and activities targeted at the young audience.For project activities, a framework was developed to assist in formulating public awareness activities. The young audience are targeted with the following activities:

Education kit on the conservation of Plant Genetic Resources
This education kit was developed with Universiti Malaysia Sabah for secondary school students to better understand the importance of PGR conservation in Malaysia. The Chinese version of the Education kit was developed by the Institute of Crop Germplasm (ICGR), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing, China and is now available on the web. A similar kit is being developed in India.

"Cyber plant conservation project" (CPCP)
The project was developed with Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia (ENSEARCH) and in collaboration with MIMOS-MIU, Malaysian Agricultural and Development Institute (MARDI), and others.

e-conservation
A linked Web sites to all webpages carrying activities relating to PGR by the school children and the general public is in development.
