Picea abies Network
Norway spruce (Picea abies)
is probably the most important commercial conifer in Europe and it is for
this reason that the initial efforts of EUFORGEN concentrated on
this species.
The Norway spruce Network was created in 1995 with the
main aim of promoting the maintenance of a broad genetic variation
in the species in order to ensure the necessary evolutionary
adaptability to a changing environment over many
generations.
The Network scope has now been enlarged to
encompass all European conifers. We thought, however, that it would
be useful to maintain the Picea abies related outputs both for their
intrinsic and for their reference value. Of
particular interest are the technical outputs of the network: the
Technical Guidelines for conservation of Norway Spruce and the
Bibliography on Norway Spruce (that will be updated on a regular
basis).
