Bibliography on genetics,
breeding and genetic resources of Norway spruce
A wealth of knowledge about
Norway spruce has been provided by various research projects and
studies on genetic variation, provenances, breeding, conservation
and use of genetic resources, conducted in European countries during
the past decades. Many results, however, remain unpublished or are
available with limited diffusion, often due to language barriers or
political divisions.
The IUFRO Working Party
2.02.11 "Norway spruce breeding and genetic resources" and
the EUFORGEN Picea abies Network agreed to jointly establish
a bibliography on genetics, breeding and genetic resources of Norway
spruce. The development of this joint project was initiated at the
last IUFRO Norway spruce Symposium (in Slovakia, September 1997),
and details were discussed during the third Picea
abies Network meeting held in the Czech Republic, 26-29
April 1998.
Since bibliographic sources
are already available for internationally published literature, this
project presents a valuable opportunity to make internationally
accessible references of 'grey literature': manuscripts and articles
published in national journals which are not widely known or
distributed. It is hoped that by compiling such information and
sharing it internationally, the bibliography will contribute to
facilitating the conservation and genetically sustainable management
of Norway spruce forests.
Corresponding to their common
objectives, this effort is an opportunity to develop close links
between the IUFRO
Working Party and the EUFORGEN Picea abies Network.
In order to establish the
bibliography, a contact person was
identified in each country . The contact persons will provide or
help providing references to be included.
Only references to literature
which is available from institutions or libraries in the country
will be included. The format of the submitted references should be
as follows:
|
Author |
Year of publication
|
Original title |
English title |
Bibliographic line (source) |
Language of
text |
Abstract (optional)
|
It was discussed whether
abstracts (in English) should be included in the Bibliography.
Easily available abstracts should be included but a missing abstract
should not prevent a reference from being submitted.
To facilitate the process of
data collection, files which are readily available will be uploaded
on this site. Initially, three files are provided which include:
A comprehensive list of references on Norway spruce and isoenzymes A short,
selective list of most recent, relevant references from the Current Contents (1995-1997) Example of a
country-specific list received from Lithuania
The update of the database is an
ongoing process and national contact persons are
requested to
submit material to the EUFORGEN Secretariat in the format specified
above. To view the current state of the
database click here.
