Activities & Projects

The International Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT) is a network of coconut-producing countries which is supported by IPGRI in its capacity as the organizer and executing agency, and by other partner institutions and donors. COGENT supports and coordinates research of national, regional and global significance to promote sustainable collecting, exchange, conservation, enhancement, evaluation and utilization of coconut genetic resources for the socioeconomic and environmental benefits of coconut farmers and the coconut industry. In order to effectively implement the above mandate, COGENT collaborates closely with IPGRI's thematic and regional groups, the member countries' national programmes and those of the partner institutions.

Activities In 2000
COGENT, in collaboration with its partner institutions and member countries, will conduct several meetings, workshops and training courses in year 2000 as part of its capacity building activities to train coconut researchers and to identify and address common problems and opportunities.
