world. Activities on buckwheat are promoted through partnership with
national programmes in the region. China and Japan in East Asia, and Nepal
and India in South Asia are mainly involved in the networking activities.

| Forest
Genetic Resources |
|
Asia Pacific Forest Genetic
Resources Programme (APFORGEN) is a programme to increase conservation and sustainable use of tropical forest genetic resources. IPGRI hosts APFORGEN secretariat together with Asia Pacific Association of Forest Research Institutions (APAFRI). |
|
| Lathyrus |
Lathyrus is a grain-cum-fodder legume crop suited
to marginal areas and is important in parts of South Asia and the Central
and West Asia and the North Africa (CWANA) region. The Lathyrus
Genetic Resources Network (LGRN) was initiated in 1993. The
countries/organizations, namely, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Syria,
Jordan, Ethiopia, China, Canada and the European Union are members of the
Network.

| Safflower |

Safflower Germplasm Advisory Committee (ISGAC) to promote conservation and
use of safflower germplasm throughout the world.

|
| Sweet Potato |
The Asian Network on
Sweet Potato Genetic Resources (ANSWER) activities include field
genebank management, characterisation, developing RAPD-system for
genotyping and duplicate identification, Complimentary conservation strategy
are being considered.
|
| Tropical Fruits |
| Rich diversity of
native tropical fruit species and the value of these species in enhancing
nutritional security, reducing poverty and protecting the environment has
initiated several activities on conservation and use of diversity of
priority species with funding support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB)
and the Australian Centre of International Agricultural Research (ACIAR)
during 2000-2004.The Asian Fruit Genetic Resources Network (AFGRN)
involving 10 Asian countries has also been established. |
