IPGRI Office for East Asia was established in 1988 at the Chinese Academy of
Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Beijing, China under the Memorandum of
Understanding between IPGRI and CAAS for the Development of Scientific Cooperation on Plant Genetic Resources. CAAS provides
the administrative support to the Office and helps to develop relationships
with different national programmes. The Office is a sub-regional office of IPGRI-APO and responsible for coordinating plant genetic resources activities, developing cooperation with the national programmes and assisting in the implementation of IPGRI-supported projects in East Asia. The office also helps to arrange the workshops, network meetings and training courses that will take place in the region, and organizes the translation of relevant IPGRI publications into Chinese. The Office has four staff:
